City to Dedicate New Home for Virginia Beach Animal Care & Adoption Center

After breaking ground less than a year ago, construction of the new Virginia Beach Animal Care & Adoption Center is complete. The city will officially dedicate the new $12.5 million facility, Monday, Dec. 5 at 4 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and holiday tree illumination at 341 S. Birdneck Road. Following the ceremony, guests may take a tour of the new facility. The 38,000-square-foot facility sits on 5.14 acres and was constructed by Armanda Hoffler Construction Company and designed by Guernsey Tingle Architects.
The new shelter can house up to 192 dogs, 129 cats and 20 pocket/exotic pets. This new state-of-the-art green facility replaces the current 8,461-square -foot building on Leroy Road that was constructed in 1974 and has outlived its useful life. Relocation of the animals to their new home will take place Tuesday, Dec. 6.
