Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute
Hampton, VA
This $199 million, state-of-the-art cancer treatment center will be one of only eight full-scale operating proton facilities in the U.S and the largest free-standing proton facility in the world at 98,800 SF. Projected to treat an estimated 2,000 cancer patients a year, the facility houses 5 treatment rooms. The 2-story brick and glass building features a large rotunda and overlooks a small lake.

The Animal Care and Adoption Center currently under construction in Virginia Beach, embraces sustainable design practices in an effort to create an interactive environment with the animals helping people connect with the natural world in a state of the art high performance building utilizing a geothermal mechanical system, rainwater harvesting and solar hot water heating among just a few of the building highlights. The endeavor has been deliberately designed to go beyond LEED certification yet stay true to the buildings purpose of actually compassionately caring for the animals it serves. Completion expected in December of 2011. -
Hampton University Museum
Hampton, VA
Initially constructed as a library around 1909, this third renovation of the prestigious museum combined the original library and previous renovations into one cohesive structure. The result was a 34,293 SF modern, yet historically sensitive building that is home to an extensive collection of African-American and Indian-American artifacts and artwork.

Hampton University Student Center
Hampton, VA
This 109,000 SF, three-story student center was designed as a modern extension of the surrounding historic structures on campus. Functional elements include a bookstore, movie theater, food court, ballroom, bowling alley, computer room, game room, media lounge, weight room, faculty administrative and student organization offices, a running track and the Presidential Suite.

Richmond Juvenile Detention Center and Court
Richmond, VA
This facility actually consists of two separate buildings connected via a common atrium. The 41,500 SF single-story detention center includes 70 holding cells for juvenile offenders while the 44,500 SF, single-story courthouse contains three finished courtrooms and space for an additional one, judges’ chambers and administrative space.

Norfolk Public Health Building
Norfolk, VA
This five-story, 196,000 SF facility houses five different functions – The Department of Public Health, the Public Health Clinic, the Medical Examiner’s office, City Forensics Lab and biomedical research / ncubator space. During construction, Armada Hoffler had to meet the unique needs of each user, including separation of spaces for biohazardous and security reasons.

The Virginia Diocesan Center at Roslyn
Richmond, VA
A year-round Episcopal conference and retreat center, it is located on 150 scenic acres in Henrico County. Armada Hoffler provided construction services for a 28,000 SF dining hall, four guest residences containing 14 bedroom units and a community building.
